PRICING A PAINT JOB IS NEVER BLACK AND WHITE!

Typically, however, a straight paint job runs from $1.00 to $1.75 a square foot with a 200 square foot minimum.  That includes minor drywall repair work, prepping, priming, and painting up to two coats.

Simple faux techniques like color washes start at $2.00 per square foot.  More complex techniques, like marbling or wood graining, start at $4.00 per square foot and go up from there depending on how many colors, if there is applied texture, how intricate the design etc.

Murals usually range from $8 to $50 per square foot, depending on how much detail is desired.

There are many variables that can effect these prices.  For instance, if there are heights involved, damaged surfaces that need more than minor prep, difficult areas to reach, or the necessity to do the work at odd hours or on "night" shifts.

Historical restoration and other very specialized work is bid on a per-job basis.

A three-color wood grain like this would  cost $4.00/sq. ft. in most cases.

This more complex finish - with five colors and the "planks" painted in would be $7.00-$9.00/sq. ft.

This textured plaster finish with four glazes would cost about $10.00/sq. ft.

A marble finish like this would go for $10/sq. ft.

This marble finish is more detailed with fine lines, intricate glazing and cracks, and would be $12/sq. ft.

 A fairly simple wood grain like this would cost $3.00/sq. ft.

This mural, seen on the frame before it was installed, measured 9X12, or 108 sq. ft. and cost $35/ sq.ft - $3,700.

This tree/sky/hedge mural, which was painted on canvas on the ground as you see it here, and then installed, would also go for $35/ sq. ft.
