In September of 2008 Atmosphere Custom Painting was hired by the city of Aspen, Colorado to transform the lobby of the historic Wheeler Opera House. We turned plain white walls into beautiful venetian plaster and also painted a custom mural on the centerpiece walls that extended across the ceiling alcove.
Like many great buildings in mountain towns in the 1800's the Wheeler served more than one purpose - it was a beautiful theater AND a bank. Fortunately, the city planners in Aspen had enough foresight to keep the original vault doors intact. Here you see one with our venetian plaster treatment around it. Also - a good shot of the finished mural.
Nearly every bit of wood trim, casing, doors, baseboard etc. in the Wheeler Opera House was traditionally faux finished to give it a uniformity. Over the decades many of the seams in the main house beams became badly split and cracked. Atmosphere Custom Painting won the public bid to restore these seams to their original finish. This was a very tricky job, as we not only had to repair, patch and "float" these seams but match the colors and style of the original faux finish - 20 feet up and upside down!
Atmosphere was also contracted to restore and refinish the proscenium and opera boxes in the Wheeler Opera House. Here you see Ken in front of the finished project.
Here you see a before and after of the Evergreen Cafe in Buena Vista, Colorado, in which Ken turned the old off-white walls that had been there for decades into much-more-interesting brick walls.
